The Trumansburg Charitable Trust is the result of a bequest of a longtime resident of Trumansburg, Edward F. Moseley, who died on January 5, 1992. Mr. Moseley was concerned with sustaining a high level of education in Trumansburg and with attracting talented and motivated people to the teaching profession. He left his entire estate to the promotion of this end. Awards are available to “students who are graduates of the high school operated by the Trumansburg Central School District who are engaged in a course of study at the level of primary or secondary education which is leading to a degree…”
The sum available for awards varies each year, depending upon fiscal policy and an evaluation of the applicants. Since 1994, awards have been given to 176 graduates of Trumansburg High School in pursuit of carriers in education. It is particularly important to note that the award will be distributed when the applicant has evidenced a continued commitment to the pursuit of a career in education. Thus, in some cases, the nomination may be conditional, for example: we may award a portion of the final grant to seniors in June and condition the rest of the grant on continuing the career course evidenced at the time of application. When appropriate, the fund will monitor the student’s post high school record and, then, in the third year of the undergraduate program leading to a degree in teaching, determine whether the student has continued to fulfill the goals of the Trust and, if so, distribute the rest of the grant.
